Wonderful wool
Pure wool products add comfort and affordable luxury to your life – however and where ever you use them. They’re hardwearing, so last longer, saving money (and landfill) in the long run. Wool is one of the most sustainable and planet friendly fibres in the world. Whether you’re after a rug to keep you warm, or an affordable interior design statement, wool is the product you need.
Wool is one of the world’s wonder fibres. It's warm, soft on the skin, sustainable, renewable, hypoallergenic, odour resistant, biodegradable, moisture wicking, flame retardant, UV resistant and is a good sound and heat insulator. Have a look at our Sustainability page to get more information about the on-farm sustainability in the production of our wool.
The inherent sustainability of wool is a key reason why we choose to wear wool and use wool. It's graphically illustrated by the simple act of burying wool throw or garment in the garden. It will biodegrade and disappear over several months while releasing nutrients back into the soil. Try doing that with a garment made from polyester or nylon, or other petroleum based fabrics, and the difference would be clear.
The ritual of shearing on farms is both a long standing tradition and a necessary practice for animal welfare. Like our own hair and nails, wool grows continuously. If it's not shorn, the wool will get so long, hot and heavy that it can cause a range of health issues. We shear the lambs in January/February each year. It's not a painful process for the animal (just like when you get a haircut) and is a key part of our animal welfare programme.
